The Stunt Man is a 1980 American thriller film directed by Richard Rush from a screenplay he co-wrote with Paul Brodeur and Lawrence B. Marcus. The film is about a fugitive who stumbles onto a movie set when they need a new stunt man. He takes the job as a way to hide out and falls for the leading lady while facing off with his manipulative director.
The film stars Peter O'Toole, Steve Railsback, and Barbara Hershey. The Stunt Man premiered in the United States at the 1980 New York Film Festival and received its general theatrical release on December 25, 1980.
