Meneer Chrome, a talented Dutch landscape architect, is hired to design a magnificent garden on an English estate owned by Thomas Smithers and his wife, Juliana. With written instructions from Juliana's cousin, Fitzmaurice, Chrome must navigate a tumultuous history between the two lovers and a scheme to bankrupt Thomas through excessive garden expenditures.
