The Penthicodes farinosa peleng is just a lovely little lanternfly. This species of lantern belongs to the Fulgoridae family native to Thailand.
Encased in a black plastic float frame with elasticity film which allows you to easily see both sides of the mantis. The plastic film allows you to better see the physical characteristics of your critter while keeping them safe. You can open the frame but it will probably damage your new insect friend.
The frame is approximately 3.75" across (diagonal). 4" with base.
Lanternflies are members of the family Fulgoridae and are also known as planthoppers. They have two sets of wings but use them to jump and glide as opposed to actual flying. They are found within Southeast Asia and Central/South America, but as of 2014 one species has been inadvertently introduced into the United States.
A great addition to any cabinet of curiosities or classroom educational tool!
The critter pictured is an example of what you will be receiving. No worries, they are all about the same and super lovely.
