This framed butterfly is truly breathtaking! It's a real butterfly specimen that comes ready to display, making it a perfect gift for any butterfly and gardening enthusiast. It will complement your collection of natural oddities and nature-inspired artwork beautifully.

The monarch butterfly, also known as Danaus plexippus, is a milkweed butterfly from the Nymphalidae family. Depending on the region, it goes by different names such as milkweed, common tiger, wanderer, and black-veined brown. This butterfly is one of the most recognizable and iconic pollinators in North America, although it's not particularly efficient when it comes to pollinating milkweeds.

The eastern North American monarch population has a remarkable annual instinctive migration from the northern and central United States and southern Canada to Florida and Mexico during late summer and autumn. They cover thousands of miles during this fall migration, and then return north in spring through multiple generations. The western North American population of monarchs migrates to sites in southern California, with some individuals found in overwintering Mexican sites as well. In 2009, monarchs were successfully reared in the International Space Station, emerging from pupae located in the station's Commercial Generic Bioprocessing Apparatus.

The monarch butterfly is believed to have been named "monarch" in honor of King William III of England, as its main color is reminiscent of the king's secondary title, Prince of Orange.

**MATERIALS***
This unique black plastic float frame features elasticity film (NOT GLASS), allowing for observation of both sides of the butterfly while keeping it safe. The non-traditional shadowbox design provides a one-of-a-kind look at an affordable price. While the butterfly box frame can be opened, it is important to handle it with care to avoid harm to your insect companion.

Measuring approximately 4.75" x 4.75" diagonally across and 5" with the base, the diamond/circle plastic frames have side dimensions of 3.6" x 3.6". This framed pinned butterfly is an excellent addition to any insect collection, cabinet of curiosities, or educational setting. It also makes a perfect butterfly lovers gift and entomologists who appreciate real framed insects and mounted butterflies.

***NOTE***
Any dried butterfly, moth, mantis, and other insect are natural products and therefore not perfect. Not all specimens look exactly the same and therefore slight deviations in patterns and colors are possible. Due to its frail nature, the legs and antennae are not guaranteed intact. *** ETHICS & ORIGIN ***
Determining the ethical sourcing of insects is a complex issue, and what is considered ethical can vary from person to person. However, we source our insects from trustworthy suppliers who assure us that their specimens are ethically sourced. We take their word for it and strive to promote responsible practices in the insect trade.

Our insect and butterfly specimens are sustainably sourced, farm-raised, and collected ethically after death. Butterfly/Insect farming practices across the globe assist in protecting the natural habitats of these critters from commercial farming and deforestation. This helps to maintain populations of all flora and fauna on the protected land, promoting more habitat for procreation. Moreover, locals in these areas can earn a fair wage through farming while simultaneously preventing deforestation.

*** BUTTERFLY SYMBOLISM & SPRITUALISM ***
The Monarch butterfly's arrival symbolizes the return of the souls of ancestors and coincides with the Mexican Day of the Dead, which is a celebration of loved ones who have passed away. Monarch butterflies are sacred to Indigenous groups on both sides of the border.

Throughout history, the butterfly has held great significance as a symbol of transformation, hope, and faith. Due to its multiple life cycles - from larva to caterpillar, chrysalis, and finally, a stunning, flying butterfly - it is also associated with rebirth. Butterfly symbolism can represent change, growth, development, a fresh start, and inner peace. If you find yourself frequently encountering butterflies or feeling drawn to them, it may be a positive indication that you should embrace change in your life.
