The Green-banded Urania (Urania leilus) is a day-flying moth of the Uraniidae family. It is found in tropical South America east of the Andes, including Suriname, French Guiana, east Colombia, Venezuela, east Ecuador, Brazil, north Bolivia, east Peru, and Trinidad.

This framed butterfly is absolutely stunning! It looks like it belongs in a magical fairy tale. It is considered a very impressive and appealing-looking lepidopteran. It is very colorful, though the iridescent parts of the wings do not have pigment; rather the colors originate from optical interference. Very similar to the Chrysiridia rhipheus, the Madagascan sunset moth.

This real metallic butterfly specimen is framed and ready for display making for a perfect present for any butterfly lover! Perfect alongside your other natural oddities and nature artwork.

The Green-banded Urania, also known as the Urania leilus Butterfly Moth, is a truly mesmerizing sight. This day-flying moth is a member of the Uraniidae family and was first described by Carl Linnaeus in his 1758 edition of Systema Naturae. Its natural habitat is along riverbanks in primary and secondary rainforests, at elevations ranging from sea level to about 800m (2,600ft), in tropical areas of South America east of the Andes Mountains. The wingspan of the Green-banded Urania measures approximately 70mm (2.8in) and feeds exclusively on certain species of the toxic spurge Omphalea, like all Urania species.

*** ETHICS & ORIGIN ***
Determining the ethical sourcing of insects is a complex issue, and what is considered ethical can vary from person to person. However, we source our insects from trustworthy suppliers who assure us that their specimens are ethically sourced. We take their word for it and strive to promote responsible practices in the insect trade.

Our insect and butterfly specimens are sustainably sourced, farm-raised, and collected ethically after death. Butterfly/Insect farming practices across the globe assist in protecting the natural habitats of these critters from commercial farming and deforestation. This helps to maintain populations of all flora and fauna on the protected land, promoting more habitat for procreation. Moreover, locals in these areas can earn a fair wage through farming while simultaneously preventing deforestation.

*** BUTTERFLY SYMBOLISM & SPRITUALISM ***
Pink butterflies symbolize joy, happiness, and playfulness. Their presence is said to bring good luck, uplifting energy, and feelings of positivity to those around them. If you happen to spot a pink butterfly, it could be a sign that your kindness is being acknowledged or that you can anticipate kindness from others. Ultimately, pink butterflies represent the inherent kindness that resides within all of us.

Throughout history, the butterfly has held great significance as a symbol of transformation, hope, and faith. Due to its multiple life cycles - from larva to caterpillar, chrysalis, and finally, a stunning, flying butterfly - it is also associated with rebirth. Butterfly symbolism can represent change, growth, development, a fresh start, and inner peace. If you find yourself frequently encountering butterflies or feeling drawn to them, it may be a positive indication that you should embrace change in your life.
